20 Years After Indictment, Mexican Cartel Leader Pleads Guilty

Miguel Angel Caro-Quintero will be sentenced on February 4, 2010 in Denver, after admitting to trafficking thousands of tons of marijuana. He was well-known as the brother of Rafael Caro-Quintero, who killed DEA Agent Enrique Camaren in 1985 and is now serving a 40-year sentence in Mexico.

Earlier this year, Caro-Quintero was extradited from Mexico to Denver after serving eight years in a Mexican prison on weapons charges. He faces between 10 to 20 years in prison. Read more at FoxNews.com.

Homeland's ICE target La Familia cartel; take down 1200

More than 300 were arrested in two days during "Operation Coronado," involving Department of Homeland Security's Immigration and Customs Enforcement, targeting the infamous La Familia Mexican drug cartel. Federal, state and local law enforcement colaborated over a 44 month period to arrest 1,200 on narcotics related charges. Along with the arrests, 11.7 tons of drugs and $32.8 million were seized.

With the Mexican drug wars escallating and violence spilling over into the United States daily, targeting these big drug cartels and their distribution networks is key to reclaiming boarder security. While La Familia and the other cartels are far from beaten, a fight given on any front is crucial.

Drug Raids Targeting Mexican Cartel Nab 300-Plus

The Associated Press reports that the U.S. announced the arrest of more than 300 members of the La Familia drug cartel in the largest strike against Mexican drug operations in U.S. La Familia is one of the cartels responsible for the recent violence in Mexico in the ongoing war between the Mexican Government and drug cartels.
